My first photo for this week is of my beloved dog, Nikishkka's Frosty Feet. She is long gone now, but not forgotten. In 2001 when I moved to Alaska from Wisconsin she went with me. She is buried there, underneath some Black Spruce tree's. If you look off to the distance on a clear day you can see Denali (Mt. McKinley). She was 15. I miss her every day.
My next photo is from last June. A friend and I flew up to Alaska for 2 weeks. We did a remote 12 mile hike across Kachemak Bay to Greywingk Glacier. Aged Beauty? Can't get much older than a glacier...lovely blogger won't let me enlarge the photo so please click it.
We stopped and had a lite snack on the shores of Greywingk and while we were sitting there I spotted this cool, cool rock. If you look with an open mind you will see it has a Salmon on it! I was so excited to find it. Salmon, as they get old and are spawning, their nose hooks, and the grey spots are where the eyes would be. I can see it very plainly but then I've seen many different ways artists depict Salmon and this just jumped right out at me. I packed it out in my backpack and brought it home with me. I weighed it, it was 9 pounds and I didn't really need all that extra weight in my pack but there was no way I was going to leave it. I love this rock, it now rests on my fireplace mantle.
Thanks for stopping by and have a good week.
all wonderful photos - esp. your beautiful dog (no wonder you miss her!). i love the salmon in the rock, and of course, you can't get any older beauty than a glacier - brilliant!!

Wow, that glacier is amazing- stunning! And I don't blame you for keeping that rock, what a nice reminder of Alaska.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get past your first picture! Her eyes are AMAZING. Our furry family stays with us forever!
ReplyDeleteI see a fish in that rock... not sure about the salmon... bu I've hauled a lot of rocks home in my suitcase r pockets because they spoek to me!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful puppy love her blue eyes, she will always be in your heart. I agree there is almost nothing on earth as old as a glacier. The rock is an amazing find. I am with you a few extra pounds was worth taking that rock home.

Great salmon rock!
ReplyDeleteYour pup was so gorgeous. Sweet of you to give her a view of the majestic Denali for all time. I can hear how much you miss her. So glad you had her for so many years.

ReplyDeleteThat is a great rock. I pick up rocks from everywhere and bring them home. Drives my husband crazy. And they don't have cool salmon on them....
